Why did we create this deodorant?
When you start your transition to zero waste and natural products and get lost in the maze of organic deodorants, you often notice that most of them contain baking soda or essential oils. You try them and they burn your armpits, or those that don't contain them are often very ineffective!
So how do you choose between a rock and a hard place?
We have observed that some people cannot tolerate sodium bicarbonate or essential oils. Indeed, these ingredients can sometimes cause itching, or even irritation on the most sensitive skin... Their use is very widespread in the formulation of natural solid deodorants: in fact, we use them in our current deodorants because they are very effective against the development of bacteria and therefore, bad odors.
The issue today is that most natural deodorants without sodium bicarbonate are not really effective...
As we wish to offer solutions for everyone, we decided, several months ago, to take on this challenge for you: to formulate a solid deodorant without sodium bicarbonate that is truly effective, with a minimum of ingredients and certified Cosmos Organic.
Which ingredients should be avoided in a deodorant if you have sensitive skin?
To suit the most delicate skin, we have therefore set aside:
- sodium bicarbonate (even though it is very effective)
- essential oils (which naturally contain allergens)
- alcohol (which can dry out the epidermis)
- and always: aluminum salts, parabens and other allergenic preservatives. ..
How does it work without baking soda?
Our formulator, Léa, from the research and development department, worked extensively on this product.
We absolutely wanted to keep a short formula, but it is ultimately the synergy of two raw materials that has proven effective in replacing the efficacy of sodium bicarbonate: magnesium hydroxide derived from Dead Sea salt and zinc ricinoleate obtained from castor oil.
Without sodium bicarbonate and without essential oils, this effective deodorant with fresh notes of Cucumber and Aloe Vera has been formulated to care for the most sensitive skin!
Like our current deodorants, its texture is similar to that of a balm. It is easily applied with the fingers and quickly penetrates the skin so as not to stain your clothes. A short formula (7 ingredients) and organic, 100% of natural origin, which does not block perspiration, but absorbs bad odors thanks to two new active ingredients.

Magnesium hydroxide in a few words?
Magnesium hydroxide regulates the skin's pH and neutralizes the acidity and bacteria responsible for bad odors. It is a healthy and natural ingredient.
The mode of action of magnesium hydroxide is based on inhibiting the production of unpleasant odors by controlling the growth of the bacteria staphylococcus hominis and corynebacterium tuberculostearicum responsible for the formation of these odors. Its effect is long-lasting. Furthermore, "thanks to its particular crystalline structure, it traps a certain amount of sweat, thus leaving the skin dry and smooth" (note, however, that this is not an antiperspirant).
Moreover, it is gentle and respectful of the skin, meaning it can be applied to all skin types, even the most sensitive and reactive. It is also safe for health and the environment. Finally, it is a renewable raw material, so its use is part of a sustainable development approach.

Zinc ricinoleate in a few words?
Zinc ricinoleate is a natural active ingredient obtained from castor oil mixed with zinc oxide, derived from metallic zinc.
The high effectiveness of zinc ricinoleate is based on its odor-absorbing capacity, so it does not prevent the production of natural perspiration. Moreover, it does not have bactericidal properties, therefore, it does not interfere with the natural flora and is very gentle on the skin.
The origin of our ingredients and their impact on the environment is an important factor for us in their selection. In the case of zinc ricinoleate, both starting ingredients are natural and come from renewable sources. In fact, castor oil is obtained from the seeds of the castor plant and metallic zinc is a mineral.
Alcohol in your formula?
Indeed, if you have read the list of ingredients, you may see "benzyl alcohol".No worries, this is not the same alcohol as the one found in classic deodorants that leave your underarms burning !
The mention "alcohol-free" in deodorants refers to ethanol. Indeed, this can promote dryness and sensitivity of the skin.
All INCI names "alcohol " preceded by a word ending in " -yl " are fatty alcohols. Not all fatty alcohols have the same cosmetic use. They can be used as emulsifiers (which allows two immiscible ingredients, such as water and oil, not to separate), but also play the role of an emollient, to relax and soften the skin.
Behenyl alcohol is therefore a fatty alcohol; its only similarity with ethanol is the alcohol function (-oh) on the molecule. It will act as an emollient for the skin and also increase the heat resistance of the deodorant.
In Cosmébio-labeled cosmetics, fatty alcohols are all of natural origin. There is no debate regarding their safety.
If you have sensitive skin and no longer know what to put under your armpits without shouting "ouch, ooh, it stings!" hurry and discover our deodorant specially designed for you: Deodorant for sensitive skin.
